SISU PANCAKES

Impact & Sustainability Statement 2026

At SISU Pancakes, doing things properly means more than making a great product. It means taking responsibility for how we make it, where our ingredients come from, and what happens to the food and packaging that passes through our hands. This statement sets out our current commitments and the practical steps we take every day to run a more sustainable, responsible business.

Reducing Food Waste — Too Good To Go

Food waste is one of the most significant environmental challenges facing the food industry, and it's something we take seriously at SISU. As a fresh food producer working with short shelf lives, we are committed to ensuring that surplus products find a home rather than going to landfill.

We are proud partners of Too Good To Go, the world's largest platform dedicated to reducing food waste. Through the app, we make surplus SISU products available to local customers at a reduced price at the end of each production run. This means:

  • Unsold fresh stock is rescued rather than discarded

  • Local customers can access our products at an accessible price point

  • We actively track and reduce the volume of product that goes to waste each week

  • Our team is incentivised to plan production efficiently to minimise surplus in the first place

Our partnership with Too Good To Go reflects our belief that good food should never go to waste and that a small bakery can play a real part in tackling a big problem.

Supporting Local — Our Supplier Commitment

We believe that buying local is one of the most straightforward ways a food business can reduce its environmental impact and support its community. From day one, SISU has prioritised working with suppliers based in Gloucestershire and the surrounding region wherever possible.

What this looks like in practice:

  • We source as many key ingredients, including dairy, eggs and produce, from local and regional suppliers

  • Collaborations leading to working and supporting local bakers

  • Shorter supply chains mean fewer food miles and fresher ingredients arriving at our kitchen

  • We build genuine relationships with our suppliers, enabling us to respond quickly to seasonal availability and reduce over-ordering

  • Supporting local producers keeps money within the regional economy and helps sustain other independent food businesses in our area

As we grow, we continue to review our supply chain and seek out new local partnerships. We would rather pay a little more for an ingredient sourced close to home than cut costs at the expense of our values.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Packaging is a challenge for any fresh food business — product integrity and food safety are non-negotiable, but that doesn't mean we have to be wasteful. We have made a deliberate commitment to use packaging that is kind to the environment without compromising the quality our customers expect.

 Our current packaging commitments include:

  • All single-slice packaging is recyclable or compostable wherever possible

  • We use no unnecessary plastic — wrapping is functional, not decorative

  • We continue to review and improve our packaging choices as better materials become available

  • Our delivery packaging is kept to the minimum required to maintain product safety and temperature

We are transparent about the fact that eco packaging in fresh food is an evolving area, and we are committed to staying up to date with best practice and improving over time.

 Our Own Delivery Fleet

SISU operates its own refrigerated delivery vehicles rather than relying on third-party couriers. This gives us direct control over the cold chain, reduces the risk of product loss through mishandling, and allows us to plan routes efficiently reducing unnecessary mileage and emissions compared to a fragmented courier network.

 Looking Ahead

Sustainability is not a destination; it’s an ongoing commitment. As SISU grows, we are focused on:

  • Extending our Too Good To Go offering and tracking waste reduction over time

  • Formalising our local supplier relationships and expanding our regional sourcing

  • Progressing towards fully compostable packaging across our entire range

  • Measuring and reporting on our food waste and carbon footprint more formally

We are a small, passionate team and we don't pretend to have all the answers. But we are committed to doing better, being honest about where we are, and taking real steps — not just making promises.
